Description

M-Folia Body Lotion is part of a range of products that offer the therapeutic qualities of Mahonia aquifolium in helping to heal and soothe dry and irritated skin.

This lotion has a light, non-greasy formula that is ideal for everyday use. It contains no harsh fragrances or colour irritants commonly found in soaps, cleansers, and moisturisers. Neither does it contain coal tar, corticosteroids, or other pharmaceuticals often found in psoriasis treatments.

Instead, natural oils are blended with a pure extract of Mahonia aquifolium (also known as ‘Oregon grape’) to help treat the symptoms associated with psoriasis, eczema, and related dry skin conditions.

This extract is a well-established treatment for psoriasis, containing berberin and oxycanthin that provide powerful antimicrobial and antioxidant actions. Together with the vitamin E and jojoba oil content of this lotion, it helps to relieve dry, cracked or scaly skin, making it feel less itchy and look healthier.

The lotion can be used by children of all ages and is suitable for treating large patches of dry, red, scaly, psoriatic skin. Its moisturising effect can also protect the skin from future flare ups and help it look and feel clearer and smoother.

Precautions

This body lotion should be stored in a cool, dark place. Keep it away from children and, once opened, use it within 12 weeks.

Take special care when using on the face. Contact with the eyes may result in irritation. In the event of this happening, flush out with clean water.

This product contains parabens. If you have a hypersensitivity to these, or any other ingredient, do not use this lotion.

You may experience an initial skin reaction when first using this lotion. Reddening of lesions or excessive dryness and flakiness is a normal part of the healing process, especially if you have used steroidal treatments in the recent past. Consult your doctor if in doubt or if symptoms persist beyond 7 days.

Side Effects

Other than a possible initial skin reaction as described previously, there are no side effects associated with the use of M-Folia Body Lotion. No interactions with other medications have been identified.

Research & Evidence

For people with Psoriasis

HelloSkin’s experts were unable to find any clinical data on the use of M-Folia Body lotion in psoriasis. However, the product contains liquid paraffin which primarily works by forming a lipid barrier on the skin that traps water and limits water evaporation from the skin surface. In dry skin conditions, including psoriasis, water loss from the upper skin layer is linked to a reduced skin barrier function, which may be worsening the disease symptoms (1).

For people with Eczema

HelloSkin’s experts were unable to find any clinical data on the use of M-Folia Body lotion in atopic dermatitis. However, the product contains liquid paraffin, which is known to form a lipid barrier on the skin that traps water and limits water evaporation from the skin surface (2).

In dry skin conditions, including psoriasis, water loss from the upper skin layer is linked to a reduced skin barrier function, which may be worsening the disease symptoms (1).

The product also contains Mahonia aquifolium. An emollient with this ingredient was compared with a control emollient in people with mild to moderate psoriasis over a period of 12 weeks, and was reported to significantly improve both disease severity and quality of life (3).

NB! This product contains a vary of natural ingredient: Mahonia (Berberis) aquifolium, Paraffinum Liquidum, Glyceryl Stearate, Glycerine, Prunus Dulcis, Methyl Paraben, Anthemis Nobilis, Cananga Odorata, Lavendula Angustifolia, Melaleuca Alternifolia, that can cause adverse reactions in people with atopic dermatitis due to a higher risk of sensitivity.
