Description

Psoriasis Balm - La Roche-Posay Iso-Urea MD Baume Psoriasis is a balm specially formulated to ease the dry patches, scaly skin, and itching that is associated with psoriasis.

Psoriatic skin is often characterized by thickened plaque and severe dehydration. This balm is designed to moisturise, smoothen, and rehydrate the skin.

It is a non-greasy, non-sticky, fragrance-free formula that spreads easily on the affected skin areas. It works intensively on scaly skin, using its urea content to help reduce the thickness of the patches and prevent recurrence; it also promotes the restoration of the skin barrier, to help prevent future problems with dehydration.

Its thermal spring water content is also claimed to soothe sensitive skin and promote good skin health.

Research & Evidence

For people with Psoriasis

Our experts at HelloSkin did not find any clinical data on the use of La Roche-Posay Iso-Urea MD Baume in people with psoriasis.

However, the product contains urea which is a part of the skin’s natural moisturising factor, known to assist in hydrating the upper skin layers (1). In higher concentrations, urea also works as a descaling agent (2).

Furthermore, the product contains glycerin, which is also found naturally in the skin where it helps attract and retain water and air from the deeper skin layers, thereby helping by hydrating and moisturising the skin (3).

In psoriasis there is an increased water loss across the skin surface compared with healthy skin (4). This water loss from the upper skin layer is linked to a reduced skin barrier function, which may aggravate disease symptoms (5).

The liquid paraffin content in the product helps creating a lipid film on the skin surface that limits water evaporation across the skin.
