KIMOVI Gel With Salt is designed to help treat a range of skin disorders, from skin that is excessively damaged to flaky, or reddened skin. It can also be used on the scalp to ease the problem of itchy or flaky skin.
Now available here in the UK, KIMOVI Gel With Salt employs two ingredients that are proven to be of therapeutic benefit to the skin.
Firstly, it contains Kigelia Africana. This is derived from a tropical African fruit tree and is known to help the skin restore and restructure itself. Its anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties have the power to bring lasting relief to people with skin complaints.
It is combined with a high concentration (28%) of Sülbeck Thermal Salt. This is a mineral salt from Germany that has similar properties to Dead Sea Salt. It is renowned for its positive effect on skin health around the world.
The salts contained in this gel act as gentle cleansing agents and disinfectants. This helps the skin to clear harmful bacteria, preventing infection on already-damaged skin.
Not only does KIMOVI Gel With Salt contain proven ingredients; it avoids the ingredients that are known to aggravate problem skin. Many skincare products include fragrances, parabens, and colorants that can irritate sensitive skin, stripping it of oils and damaging the skin further.
This gel provides a barrier for red, flaky, and impure skin. It can relieve itch and reduce the urge to scratch skin on the body or scalp. As well as helping the skin to restore stability, balance, and natural healing processes, several KIMOVI Gel With Salt reviews suggest that it can supplement medical treatment of skin problems. It may act as a useful treatment during rest periods from medication.
The gel has a non-oily texture and is quickly absorbed by the skin.
The KIMOVI Gel With Salt ingredients are:
Kigelia africana fruit extract
KIMOVI Gel With Salt is suitable for use as a daily treatment all over the body, on parts of the face (taking care to avoid the eye area) and on the scalp.
Both children and adults can use the gel but the precautions detailed below should be noted. It is safe to use in combination with other KIMOVI skin treatments.
KIMOVI Gel With Salt has a high salt content. Initial use may cause stinging on open wounds of the skin. This is normal and should not be of concern.
Store the gel away from children and use it externally only. If there is accidental contact with the eyes, flush the gel out using clean water.
This product contains a relatively small list of ingredients, but you should check it thoroughly before use. If there is hypersensitivity to any ingredient, avoid use. If an unwanted skin reaction results, cease use and consult a medical professional if the reaction persists.
There are no known side effects of using KIMOVI Gel With Salt. No interactions with other medicinal products have been reported.
HelloSkin’s experts were not able to find any clinical data on the use of KIMOVi gel with salt in people with psoriasis or other dry skin conditions. However, the product contains glycerin which is found naturally in the skin where it helps attract and retain water from the deeper skin layers, thereby helping hydrating and moisturising the skin (1). Glycerin has been found to support skin recovery after induced chemical irritation. In such case glycerin is shown to immediately increase the water-holding capacity of the skin, which then secondarily promote the recovery of the skin barrier (2).
Furthermore, the product also contains salt and fruit extracts from the African plant, Kigelia Africana. Kigelia africana is reported to be widely used as a natural treatment (3) and although many of its traditional medicinal uses have not been investigated scientifically, it is presumed to have antimicrobial, antioxidant and wound healing properties. One of its suggested bioactive substances is verminoside, which has been reported to have antiinflammatory properties in immune cells in laboratory models (4).
Laboratory studies have also shown Kigelia africana extracts to have antibacterial activities against a range of test bacteria including Staphylococcus aureus (5). In psoriatic plaques, colonisation with the bacteria S. aureus may be increased (6). One study reported that S. aureus was present in 15 of 25 of the psoriatic plaques that were investigated of which one third of the bacteria was toxigenic, and that the disease severity was linked to a higher enterotoxin production (7).
This gel also contains high concentrations of salt. Daily salt baths for 20 minutes have been shown to benefit patients with severe psoriasis after a period of 3 weeks (8). However, in that study patients benefited more from Dead Sea salt than of common salt. Dead Sea treatments are considered especially effective in psoriasis due to the combination of the special characteristics of the UV radiation in the Dead Sea and the Dead Sea water balneotherapy (bathing) (9), and has also been reported to significantly increase quality of life of patients with psoriasis and/or psoriatic arthritis for up 3 months after finishing the climatotherapy (10). HelloSkin’s experts have not been able to find any clinical data regarding the specific salt used in the KIMOVI products.
