Description

The AtoControl range from Eucerin contains natural oils that can help with treating dry skin conditions, such as atopic dermatitis.

Dry skin that is itchy and irritated requires special treatment because it usually causes scratching. This can make the skin sore and broken, leading to greater risk of infection. Unfortunately, many cleansing and cosmetic products commonly contain known irritants such as preservatives, colours, and fragrances that further dry out the skin and make the problem worse.

This face cream is specifically design for use on such skin and contains none of these irritants. It is fragrance-free, colorant-free, and paraben-free, making it well tolerated.

The oils it contains include Omega-rich oils (evening primrose and grape seed oil) and liquorice extract. These calm irritated skin and replenish it so that its natural defence system is more effective in preventing excessive water loss. In people with a dry skin condition, the protective cutaneous barrier has often been compromised. These oils help to restore it, reducing moisture loss from the upper layers of skin and helping it to look and feel healthier, smoother, and less tight.

The cream is light enough to be used daily and is easily absorbed by facial skin. It can be used in conjunction with other medications and creams, in the event of flare ups. Make-up can be used over it.

Children as well as adults can use this cream and it is also suitable for babies over the age of 3 months.

Research & Evidence

For people with Psoriasis

HelloSkin’s experts were unable to find clinical data on the use of Eucerin AtoControl Face Care Cream on psoriatic lesions. However, this product contains glycerin which helps attract and retain water from the deeper skin layers, thereby helping hydrating and moisturising the skin (1).

The product also contains ceramides which are found in high concentrations in the cells of the upper skin layer, and are essential for the proper function of healthy skin (2). In psoriatic skin lesions, the synthesis of ceramides is impaired, which compromises the structure of the skin and leads to skin barrier dysfunction (3). Skin with insufficient levels of ceramides has an increased loss of water across the surface, and thus becomes dry with increased permeability to irritants and allergens which may worsen the disease symptoms (2, 5).

For people with Eczema

HelloSkin’s experts have not found any clinical data on Eucerin AtoControl Face Care Cream and the effect on atopic dermatitis. However, the product contains glycerin, which is found naturally in the skin where it helps attract and retain water from the deeper skin layers, thereby helping hydrating and moisturising the skin (1).

In dry skin conditions, including atopic dermatitis, water loss from the upper skin layer is linked to a reduced skin barrier function, which can worsen the disease symptoms (5).

Also, the product contains ceramides. Ceramides are a family of lipids found naturally in high concentrations in the cells of the upper skin layer, and are essential for the proper function of healthy skin (2).
