Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser is formulated to soothe skin as it cleans, and can be used by small babies, the elderly, and most other people.

It is free of soaps, detergents, and fragrances that can dehydrate skin, or increase problems for people suffering from dry skin conditions. As it cleanses, it moisturises, without stripping away the natural, protective, essential oils that some household soaps do, and without clogging the pores with residue.

As a very mild formulation, it is generally safe for use even on the most sensitive skin types, and should make the skin feel smooth, soft, and supple after use.

Sufferers of psoriasis, eczema, acne, rosacea, and other dry skin conditions may use this in combination with treatment prescribed by the doctor.

Note: Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser contains SLS, which is a known skin irritant (read the precautions below).

The ingredients in Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser are:

  • Water
  • Cetyl alcohol
  • Propylene glycol
  • Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS)
  • Stearyl alcohol
  • Methylparaben
  • Propylparaben
  • Butylparaben

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser can be used daily all over the body (including the face) with water.

Apply a generous amount of the cleanser to the skin and gently massage it in, then rinse off. You can pat dry with a soft towel.

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser is safe for use by children, but take care to keep it out of their sight and reach.

It should be used only externally and care should be taken when cleansing around the eyes. If contact is made, flush out with clean water.

This product contains sodium lauryl sulfate, alcohols, and parabens. These can be irritants and, if you have a hypersensitivity to these or any of the other ingredients, avoid using it.

Do not use Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser as a leave-on application as this may increase the risk of skin reactions due to sodium lauryl sulfate.

Before using while pregnant or breastfeeding, check with your doctor.

Side Effects

The use of Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser has resulted in skin irritation in rare cases. Discontinue use in the event of any irritation.

There are no reported interactions between this product and other available medicines.

Research & Evidence

For people with Psoriasis

HelloSkin’s expert were unable to find scientific data on the use of Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser in people with psoriasis.

However, in patients with rosacea, the use of the product twice daily for two weeks did not impair the skin barrier function, and was therefore suggested to be a good skin cleanser (1).
