Description

Bioderma Atoderm Crème is a lasting, protective moisturiser for use on dry to very dry, sensitive skin. It is not to be confused with the shower cream from the same manufacturer.

The cream has an ultra-rich, creamy texture but does not block the pores when applied. It is designed for use on the face or body by infants and children, as well as adults, and its gentle-acting formula is suitable for sensitive skin.

By excluding parabens and perfumes (though it is also available in a scented version) it is well tolerated and free of the types of irritants found in many other cosmetic products, cleansers, and moisturisers. It is hypoallergenic and works by nourishing and moisturising the sensitive skin associated with dry skin conditions.

Dry, rough, tight skin will feel softer and suppler after using this cream. It is also protective in nature, because it strengthens the skin’s natural cutaneous barrier, helping it steer clear of potential irritants and preventing excess moisture from escaping. Its moisturising agents help to bind water to the upper layers of the skin, reducing evaporation and moisture loss, which is often a feature of dry skin.

Research & Evidence

For people with Psoriasis

HelloSkin’s experts could not find clinical data on the benefits of Bioderma Atoderm Créme in psoriatic lesions. However, the product contains glycerin and liquid paraffin that help attract and bind water in the skin and thereby keep the skin moist and hydrated (1).

In dry skin conditions, including psoriasis, water loss from the upper skin layer is linked to a reduced skin barrier function, which can worsen the disease symptoms (2).

For people with Eczema

HelloSkin’s experts could not find clinical data on the use of Bioderma Atoderm Créme in people with atopic dermatitis. However, the product contains glycerin and liquid paraffin which help keeping the upper skin moist by binding and trapping water and thereby prevent water from evaporating across the skin surface. Generally, in dry skin conditions, including atopic dermatitis, water loss from the upper skin layer is linked to a reduced skin barrier function, which can worsen the disease symptoms (2).

In patients with atopic dermatitis, a glycerol/glycerin cream compared with a glycerol free placebo was able to hydrate and restore the barrier function of the skin during the treatment, when treated twice daily for 4 weeks (3).

OBS! This product contains laminaria ochroleuca extract which is a natural ingredient that can cause adverse reactions in people with atopic dermatitis due to higher risk of sensitivity.
