Balneum Plus Cream is a smooth white cream that is easily absorbed by the skin. It contains lauromacrogols that reliefs itching for a softening and soothing effect on the skin. It also supports by replacing essential oils in dry skin, which helps preventing moisture loss.
The other main ingredient is urea, a natural element found in the skin that helps maintain water. Countless people with psoriasis and eczema have low levels of urea inside their skin. Balneum Plus Cream helps by replacing it.
Balneum Plus Cream is used to manage symptoms of dry skin and itching experienced with scaling skin conditions, dermatitis and eczema. The cream has shown to increase moisture in the skin for up to 24 hours after application.
Use when your dry skin condition becomes itchy in order to help break the itch scratch cycle. Balneum Plus Cream has a softening and soothing effect on the skin.
Use clean hands to apply the cream 2 times daily for maximum effect throughout the day. Balneum Plus Cream is suitable for children and adults. It can be very helpful for children who scratch their skin at night when sleeping – apply the cream just before bedtime.
In a condition where the skin area has become infected or inflamed
Check with your doctor before using on children. The cream can be used during pregnancy and by breastfeeding mothers, but not on the breasts just before lactation.
Balneum Plus Cream can lead to irritation if used on inflamed or broken skin. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
Consult with your doctor or pharmacist in case you are taking other medications. This is because urea may cause other topical treatments (e.g. fluorouracil, dithranol, corticosteroids) to penetrate through the skin more easily when used simultaneously.
Like all medicine-related products, Balneum Plus Creamm may cause some side effects. However, far from everyone gets them.
You may get a burning feel, itching, redness, formation of pustules or a worsening of your eczema if applied on inflammatory skin.
The experts at HelloSkin were unable to find any scientific data on Balneum Plus Cream in people with psoriasis. However, the product contains lauromacrogols and urea.
Lauromacrogols have been shown to have an effect on the vessels, which may reduce the blood flow to the lesion and hence have a direct impact on redness in the skin shown in controlled animal experiments and lab models (1).
Urea has been shown in psoriasis to have a direct effect on the rapid proliferating skin cells (keratinocytes) and also has a water binding capacity, resulting in a moisturizing effect (2).
For people with Eczema
HelloSkin’s experts were unable to find clinical data on the use of Balneum Plus Cream in people with atopic dermatitis.
Urea has a water binding capacity and therefore a moisturising effect (2). In eczematous skin urea has been shown to improve hydration of the upper skin layer, the water binding capacity and reduce the water loss across the skin surface (3) and to help prolong the eczema-free time compared with a control cream (4).
The product also contains lauromacrogols, that are added because of their anti-itch properties. This has been demonstrated in people with dry and itchy scalp conditions (5). Lauromacrogols were also found effective in some but not other types of itching which were experimentally induced (6).
Finally, Balneum Plus Cream contains glycerol and paraffin. In patients with atopic dermatitis, a glycerol cream compared with a glycerol free placebo was able to hydrate stratum corneum and restore epidermal barrier function during the treatment, when treated twice daily for 4 weeks (7).
